In this research-oriented programme North American Studies Culture and Literature  students learn how to contextualize and evaluate US American  Canadian and Caribbean cultural phenomena  media products  and literary writing  from the colonial period to the present day. Basic modules provide historical frameworks and theoretical tools  and foster academic language skills. Integrated Advanced and focus modules offer a historical  survey and train students’ culturally specific analytical skills. Students develop and conduct their own research based on their critical understanding of both disciplinary and interdisciplinary contexts.

Internship is not mandatory, but is optional during studies. If possible, we recommend doing an internship.

North American Studies: Culture and Literature

Automotive, avionics and mechanical systems are important application areas for most modern industries. The design of embedded control units in these areas relies on methods of computer science and engineering. Specific aspects of the development of these hardware/software systems are in the main focus of this Master degree program. The program provides knowledge and skills in three fields: Automotive Software Engineering, Embedded Systems, and Real-Time and Communication Systems.

It is mandatory to do an internship. It is easier to find internship when it is mandatory. 3-6 months is most common.

The Semester contributions totaling 271.88 EUR must be paid each semester. It includes Student Union Fee 82.90 EUR, Student Body Contribution 12.10 EUR, Student Cultural Ticket  2.80 EUR and Student Annual Ticket 174.08 EUR

The Master program concludes with the academic degree Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) and is designed to enable students to work internationally in the following professional fields: Planning, drafting, calculation and management of civil engineering and urban infrastructure projects, complex civil engineering work in leadership positions in the planning, calculation, execution and management of civil engineering and urban infrastructure projects, and application of in-depth knowledge of engineering theory, complex workflows and processes in research and development.

The Semester contributions totaling 249.90 EUR must be paid each semester. It includes Student Services 74.00 EUR, Semester Ticket 166.90 EUR and Student Council 9.00 EUR. There is a supplementary fee of 20.00 EUR for the Thoska card (only for new students or if requested)

The Mind and Brain program incorporates the innovative research conducted by the members of the Berlin School of Mind and Brain into an interdisciplinary teaching and education Master program. The Master program Mind and Brain thus acquaints students with the most up-to-date approaches to and results of neuroscience research as well as their bearing upon the fields of psychology, philosophy, neurolinguistics, neuroscience and cognitive science.
The Master program Mind and Brain offers students three different areas of specialization: (1) neuroscience, neurobiology or psychology, (2) philosophy or psycholinguistics or (3) academic management (German required).
Depending on the chosen area of specialization, the degree awarded at the end of the course may be a Master of Arts, M.A. (Track Mind) or a Master of Science, M.Sc. (Track Brain).
A major difference between the Mind and Brain Tracks lies in their different approaches to empirical research: Brain-Track students are trained to conduct empirical neuroscientific research projects independently whereas the work of Mind-Track students is governed by a theoretical or philosophical examination of neuroscientific research. Although Mind-Track students also receive methodological training that allows them to assess the quality of neuroscientific research results, the aim of the training is not to instruct students in how to conduct their own empirical research.

The Semester contributions totaling 315.64 EUR must be paid each semester. Mind and Brain Track Mind (M.A.)

Master program in Sport and Exercise Science aims to train sports scientists who solve problems creatively, prove themselves in practical research and application, communicate well orally and in writing, and have entrepreneurial skills.

English language proficiency can also be proven if examinations amounting to 20 credits in English-language examination modules were taken in the undergraduate degree program (Bachelor) or if the final thesis was/is written in English

Water Resources and Environmental Management is a research-oriented international Master of Science programme. Students acquire interdisciplinary specialist knowledge and key transferable skills in sustainable water resources management. By the time they have completed the programme, graduates are capable of taking on positions of responsibility, e.g. in research, for water authorities or senior environmental administrative bodies.
