Getting Started

With over 400 institutions of higher education that offer around 20,000 study programs and degrees, it is not a surprise that the land of ideas, Germany is one of the most sought-after destinations for higher education. One may think that once a decision is made about which subject or course to study, the path is clear. But Germany is a place where you are spoiled for choice.

There are 3 types of higher-education institutions in Germany:

  1. 1.Universities or Technical universities (Universität or Techniker Universität (TU)),
  2. 2.Universities or Technical universities (Universität or Techniker Universität (TU)),
  3. 3.Universities or Technical universities (Universität or Techniker Universität (TU)).
  4. A common mistake that students often do is that they go by the world ranking (QS or Reuters) to choose one of the best universities. These listings may be misleading. A better way to select the right institution is by choosing the right parameters: how big or small is the study group, how is the infrastructure for a particular course, the level of support and guidance provided, the time taken to complete the degree, the quality and expertise of the faculty and so on. CHE ranking is one such place to check this (https://ranking.zeit.de/che/en/).
