The goal of education at Alanus University of Arts and Social Sciences is holistic development. In addition to providing our students with a strong foundation in technical disciplines, we place a high priority on their personal growth in terms of how they see and comprehend their unique contribution to society. Our Bachelor's, Diplom, and Master's programs, doctorate studies, research, creative development projects, and the growth of the institution as a whole are all centered around this concept.
They provide courses in the areas of fine and performing arts, architecture, art therapy, education, business, and philosophy as a state-recognized university of the arts with two facilities, one in Alfter on the outskirts of Bonn (NRW) and one in Mannheim. The unusual blending of science and art promotes cross-disciplinary interactions and allows students to continuously widen their horizons. In order to do this, multidisciplinary projects and the Studium Generale (General Studies), a requirement for all degree programs, are used. These additional lectures and seminars give students a foundational education in the humanities and cultural studies with the goal of encouraging the growth of their own attitudes and perspectives.
In this way, Alanus University's educational philosophy emphasizes the importance of the whole person. So, while still adhering to Rudolf Steiner's anthroposophical notion of "educating the full human person," we embrace the humanistic principles of Schiller and Humboldt. The nonprofit organization called Alanus Foundation provides financial support to Alanus University. It is supported by contributions from the Software AG Foundation, the primary sponsor, as well as grants from outside organizations and tuition fees.
