The Hochschule Harz – University of Applied Studies and Research has two bases in Saxony-Anhalt. The Department of Automation and Computer Sciences as well as the Department of Business Studies are located in Wernigerode. The Department of Public Management can be found in Halberstadt.
Hochschule Harz has its headquarters in Wernigerode. The administrative and instructional buildings of the Department of Business Studies, as well as the Department of Automation and Computer Sciences, are housed on a 62,000-square-meter-large green campus in Hasserode (district of Wernigerode). The Department of Public Management began teaching at Hochschule Harz's new Domplatz Halberstadt campus in the winter term 2004/2005. Halberstadt's city centre combines old and new architecture to form three buildings.
Aside from teaching, one of the primary responsibilities of a university is research. They see themselves as a scientific institution that places a premium on applied research and development. Harz University of Applied Sciences strives to use its research activities to contribute significantly to social, economic, and technological development while infusing current content into the curriculum. The thematic spectrum of research projects of Hochschule Harz ranges from communication technology, mobile robotics, and electronic administration to service quality in tourist value-added chain and double-entry bookkeeping. The volume of third-party funding regularly makes up ten percent of the budget of Hochschule Harz.
In a nutshell, Harz University of Applied Sciences' two locations provide the best of both worlds. On the one hand, there are the benefits of living in a smaller town where one can live in a comfortable and familial environment. On the other hand, being in the heart of Germany has a significant advantage. Larger cities such as Magdeburg, Braunschweig, Berlin, Leipzig, and Hanover are within one to three hours' drive.
