The Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts (German: Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Frankfurt am Main, HfMDK) is the only state university in the German state of Hesse dedicated to music, theater, and dance. It was established in 1938. Currently, approximately 900 students are taught by approximately 63 professors and 350 other teaching staff. Performance on all instruments and voice, music teaching, composition, conducting, and church music are all part of the study programs. There are also musical theatre, drama, and dance programs. Doctoral programs in musicology and music education are available at the university. The institution's primary responsibility is to provide students with an excellent education. The HfMDK's education is distinguished by the students' intensive personal artistic and scientific supervision, the combination of theory and practice, and the most diverse projects and collaborations. Contemporary art is a major focus of the program. As Hessen's only university for the performing arts and their mediation, they are located in the heart of Frankfurt and the culturally vibrant Rhine-Main region: a lively art venue in the midst of society, where the future of the arts is explored and shaped - shaped by the people who study, teach, and work here with a love of experimentation, passion, and commitment. Furthermore, the HfMDK has a clear mission to arouse enthusiasm for the arts, ensuring the preservation and expansion of a vibrant cultural life. As a "networked" university, they collaborate with all major cultural institutions in the region and beyond, and they are committed to long-term projects that ensure everyone has access to the arts.
