Hochschule Wismar - University of Applied Sciences, Technology, Business and Design 

The Hochschule Wismar, University of Applied Sciences: Technology, Business, and Design (or simply University of Wismar) is Germany's third-largest and third-oldest public university. The university is located on the Baltic coast in northern Germany, with its campus only 500 meters (550 yards) from the harbor. The university, which began as an engineering academy in 1908, has become an important part of the city's cultural life. Since 2007, the university has been restructured and now has three faculties that correspond to the three subjects mentioned in its name: technology, business, and design. Mechanical, Process and Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electronics and Multimedia Engineering, and Maritime Studies are among the courses offered by the Faculty of Engineering. The Business Faculty offers courses in Business Administration, Business Law, and Business Informatics. The Faculty of Design encompasses courses in Design, Architecture, Interior Architecture, and Communication Design. The university offers more than 50 courses, including distance learning courses via its subsidiary WINGS-university. Some courses in Maritime Studies are offered in cooperation with the European Cruise Academy. Most courses lead to a bachelor's degree after 3-3.5 years or a master's degree after another 1.5–2 years. Students with a master's degree (5 years of study) qualify for pursuing a PhD. The content, quality and structure of the teaching are based on the leading international standards. The university represents a critical and humanistic teaching concept towards the students. In research, the university strives for a theory-based practical approach that clearly distinguishes itself from development and consulting that lacks theory. In addition to purely academic content, the teaching also teaches employability and entrepreneurial thinking and acting. The university supports students in the transition to employment.
