The Technische Hochschule Ostwestfalen-Lippe (abbreviated: TH OWL, English: OWL University of Applied Sciences and Arts) is a state-run technical university in Lemgo, North Rhine-Westphalia. Detmold and Höxter have additional campuses. Approximately 6,600 students collaborate with 173 professors and 550 other staff members in research, teaching, and administration.
The Technische Hochschule OWL offers 32 Bachelor's, 20 Master's and 1 Doctoral degree programmes. The TH OWL maintains an international partner network with over 100 universities. For several years, the university has been ranked as one of Germany's top ten applied research universities. The Electrical Engineering study program at TH OWL has already won several awards and is regarded as one of the best Bachelor's courses of its kind in Germany. The Bachelor degree programs Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering once again rank highly in the CHE Ranking 2016/2017.
The TH OWL conducts research in a variety of fields, but particularly in industrial automation technology and food safety. The state of NRW funded these two profile areas as competence platforms. In 2017, the university established the Institute for Industrial Information Technology, the Institute for Food Technology, and the Institute for Energy Research based on these competence platforms. The Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the TH OWL is one of Germany's most powerful research faculties.
The TH OWL's engineering focus is Lemgo. Here you will find the departments of Media Production, Life Science Technologies, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics, Production and Wood Engineering, and Economics. Detmold is home to the Detmold School of Architecture and Interior Design, as well as the Detmold School of Civil Engineering, indicating a strong emphasis on the construction industry. Höxter's departments of Environmental Engineering and Applied Computer Science, as well as Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning, focus on technical environmental and landscape design topics.
