The Ruhr University Bochum (German: Ruhr-Universität Bochum, RUB) is a public research university located in the southern hills of the central Ruhr area, Bochum, Germany. Being founded on 1962, the Ruhr-University Bochum is one of the largest universities in Germany and part of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, the most important German research funding organization.
One of the first universities in Germany to offer international bachelor's and master's degrees in place of the conventional Diplom and Magister was the University of Bochum. With a few exceptions, such as the law school, all of the Ruhr-faculties University's offer these degrees. The institution currently offers 184 distinct study programs that span all of the academic subjects it is represented in.
The state of North Rhine-Westphalia supports and oversees Ruhr University. As of 2014, the university had 42,718 students enrolled in twenty-one different faculties and employed about 5,600 people, 411 of whom were professors. This made it one of the ten largest universities in Germany. In the vibrant Ruhrgebiet metropolitan area in the center of Europe, RUB is home to countless foreign students from over 130 different nations.
The faculties and institutions of the RUB collaborate in numerous active relationships and exchange information with universities and institutes all over the world to facilitate globally networked research and teaching as well as chances for overseas study. These networks are regularly extended thanks to a clear internationalization strategy and the accompanying services provided by the International Office.
