RWTH Aachen University is a public research university in Aachen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Its full name is Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule Aachen. It is Germany's largest technical university, enrolling over 47,000 students in 170 academic areas. RWTH Aachen University's 620 acres (250 ha) campus is located in the north-western part of the city Aachen. RWTH Aachen University has 260 institutes. More than 170 academic programs, comprising the majority of traditional academic areas, are offered by the University's nine faculties. There are approximately 9,000 employees engaged in administration, teaching, and research, including 553 professors. The RWTH Aachen has a higher-than-average proportion of international students as compared to comparable German institutions. RWTH Aachen University is in a unique position with regard to the reflection and promotion of international aspects and intensive interaction with other universities because of Aachen's proximity to the Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg as well as the ensuing exposure to a variety of cultural heritages.
