Overview

The University of Passau, or Universität Passau in German, is a public research university founded on October 9, 1978, in Passau, Lower Bavaria, Germany. Its first semester enrollment was 463 students. There are now 39 distinct undergraduate and graduate degree programs offered at its four faculties. On its university campus, which is a short distance from Passau's Old Town, about 12,000 students from more than 100 different countries and about 1,100 primary employees in the academic units and academic support divisions are working on research, teaching, and support activities for higher education. This campus has won multiple architectural awards in addition to being well-equipped in terms of technology infrastructure. The library was founded with the university in 1978 and welcomed Passauer residents and students that same year. Together with the five faculty and institution libraries, the central library serves as the university's primary library. Currently, there are two million volumes and 3,050 journals in the university library. Each of the 1,000 desks in the reading rooms, which are available 16 hours a day, is for library patrons. The University of Passau is renowned for its international orientation and atmosphere outside of Germany and Bavaria. Approximately 236 international universities throughout the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Australia have cooperative partnerships with the university, allowing students enrolled there to complete parts of their studies abroad.
