The international Master in Social and Cultural Anthropology (Ethnologie) takes an analytical approach to anthropology that aims to explain fundamental social questions via ethnographic field research and intercultural comparison. Students engage in contemporary issues such as migration, urban and rural transformation, consumption, governance, family transformation, natural resource management, and climate change and investigate these issues in a variety of regional contexts across the world.

The Semester contributions totaling 337.50 EUR must be paid each semester. It includes Constitutional student body fee 13.30 EUR, Semester Public Transport Pass fee 182.40 EUR, Semester Public Transport Pass Hardship fee 6.80 EUR, Student Union fee 85 EUR and Administrative fee 50 EUR
Minimum requirement includes a first degree in social and cultural anthropology (e.g., Bachelor degree) from Universität Hamburg or a comparable degree from other university.
German proficiency can also be proven by German Abitur grade/Abitur intensive courses with 12 points
