Course Details

British Cultural Studies examines cultural processes in British and Irish society and how they are portrayed in the arts and the media. The focus is on the examination of texts, although a very broad concept of ‘text’ applied in this regard, encompassing such diverse cultural products as films, social media, print media, music, advertising and fashion. British Cultural Studies questions the mechanisms of (everyday) culture and demonstrates to what extent cultural texts are inscribed with the political, social and economic interests of certain social players or groups. These are considered against the backdrop of the interplay between the power-supporting function of popular culture and the creative engagement with Its products by audiences and consumers.

Requirements

Entry Requirements

Minimum entry requirements includes the completion of a Bachelor degree or a Diploma or Magister programme in British studies or in teaching English.

Before commencing the programme, students must prove knowledge equivalent to at least 60 credits in the fields of English linguistics, English literary studies and British cultural studies, with at least ten credits in each of these three fields.

Knowledge of a further foreign language at A2 level of CEFR must be proven.
