Informatics for the Natural Sciences

The Master degree program data science Due to the constant increase in data volumes and data complexity  Data Science has created a new  interdisciplinary field of work that covers a wide range of aspects of data analysis  such as handling large amounts of data  statistical modelling  visualisation  pattern recognition with machine learning methods  but also ethical and legal questions. Data Scientists are urgently needed for many socially significant developments  e.g. in the areas of intelligent vehicles or housing  artificial intelligence or social media.

The extraction of information from data is a genuinely interdisciplinary undertaking: The data collection and the communication of the results of the analyses require a link to the domain from which the data originate. The processing and analysis of the data requires an interaction of computer algorithms with statistical methods.

Data Science

The Master of Arts degree in Sociology offers well-founded theoretical and methodological training and enables specialization opportunities in different areas. The overarching goal of the study program is to impart extensive theoretical and methodological knowledge to the students in the theory and method seminars as well as in all offered areas of general and special sociology. The special feature of the MA Sociology in Bielefeld is that the students are given maximum freedom of choice at the largest sociological institution in the country. The interdisciplinary Master program "History  Economics and Philosophy of Science / Interdisciplinary Studies of Science" (ISoS) focuses on science-reflective studies and is aimed at working out essential characteristics of science and making them explicit. The goal is the analysis of scientific knowledge  Its economic structure and Its integration into the social context in the past and present. The course is aimed on the one hand at bachelor’s graduates in the three basic disciplines of history  economics and philosophy  and on the other hand at graduates from the natural and social sciences who are aiming for a science-reflective deepening of their studies. The training in the ISoS course qualifies the students for independent research work in the field of science research  but at the same time is aimed at imparting important skills for working in various institutions of science administration and science management.

Sufficient language skills can also be proven by English at the CEFR level of B2 and a level of German of B2. If  at the date of application  no German language skills can be proven  a level of C1 in English is requisite for admission; in that case  skills of German at the level of B1 need to be earned during the programme and proven upon receiving the degree

History  Economics and Philosophy of Science 

The aim of the Master programme Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering is to enable you to work independently as an engineer in a prominent position in the maritime industry. Energy and Environmental Management in Developing Countries

ASC stands for Advanced Signal Processing and Communications Engineering  and it is a new Master programme for students who want to specialize in this field.

The ASC programme is designed for students with Bachelor degree focusing on information and communication technology. Its diploma is recognized internationally and meets the requirements for subsequent doctoral studies. The four-semester curriculum starts in winter. All courses are taught in English and do not require prior knowledge in German language.

The Aerospace engineering deepens the engineering fundamentals and enables graduates to independently solve problems of product development and scientific research tasks. The university offered four-semester course with the double degree program "Master of Science/Master of Engineering.

Aerospace Engineering (Dual degree)

Mechatronics is an exciting interdisciplinary field of engineering, based on mechanical and electrical engineering as well as signal and data processing. It can also be seen as a new design philosophy, where these fields are treated in an integrated way.
