Public Art and New Artistic Strategies

The course includes lectures on more general approaches to integrated urban development and urban sustainability  but also takes a closer look at urban resilience in the context of climate-sensitive planning by analysing urban heat islands and different buildings typologies and urban patterns. The (Research) Master degree programme in Quantitative Economics (QE) is organized jointly by the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics and the Center for Mathematical Economics (IMW). Its quantitative analytical approach to economics provides the relevant skills to model and solve economic problems on an abstract level and to transfer the analytic solutions to real world applications. This encourages a flexible and creative approach to complex economic issues like those found typically in the real world.
Students can choose between two different tracks of the Master degree programme: The regular programme QE and the international track of QE. Environmental and Resource Management

The program Urban design revitalization historic cities districts focus of development of historic cities in Europe and in the MENA region is until today one of the most important challenges for sustainable urban development. A vivid inner city with a historic core shapes the image and the identity of the city and is the catalyst for developments in the whole town. The benefit of renewal and revitalization of inner city areas is never reduced just to the inhabitants and stakeholders of a certain quarter  but extends into surrounding areas and to the town as a whole. Accordingly  in urban development nothing is more sustainable than a vital inner city. This thesis is correct for both shrinking cities in Germany and metropolitan areas in the MENA region. Rehabilitation processes require an integrated approach  finally fixed in the urban form  and guidelines that guarantee stability and continuity for all further development.

Language pre-requisites for international applicants includes Proof of German language skills

Applicants whose bachelor’s degree was made up of less than 210 credit points can be admitted to the programme under certain conditions. The Applicants has to successfully complete modules adding up to the difference between the credit points gained in the bachelor’s degree and 210 CP. These specific modules are to be defined by an admission committee.

The Bachelor program Graphic Design and Visual Communication imparts theoretical, technological and creative skills in order to create print and media works. Students are introduced to typography, logo design, corporate design, poster design, illustration, photography, film, motion design, editorial design, graphic design in public space and web and app design. With the acquired knowledge graduates of B.A. Graphic Design and Visual Communication are prepared optimally for working as a freelancer or junior designer in design studios, advertising agencies or marketing departments.

The MA Communication Design and Creative Strategies Master program is future-oriented. It teaches the key skills that are expected of creative people in managerial positions. The goal is sound mastery of the entire design-oriented value-added process, in theory and practice.

Notes teaching language depends based on location chosen. Course taught in English if location Berlin chosen and course taught in German if location Cologne chosen.

Communication design and creative strategies

The Applied biology focuses on modern disciplines in biology, including cell culture, immunology and genetic engineering. Students are trained hands on with state of the art lab equipment in the fields of Fluorescence Activated Cell Sorting (FACS),modern PCR applications or Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assays (ELISA). In the laboratory students work independently on their own projects but also integrate in a research team
