The Master program in Modern Sinology combines intensive training in the Chinese language with interdisciplinary training in perspectives from the social sciences and the humanities on modern China (history, philosophy, religion, politics, society, economy, and law). Students get the chance to acquire cultural skills, and they learn to investigate the Chinese World from a variety of contextualizing perspectives and to critically reflect these perspectives. The interdisciplinary approach enables students to study the complexities of modern and contemporary China and Its dynamic relationship with other regions of the world. The program prepares students both for academic and for professional careers in all areas requiring excellent linguistic and cultural skills regarding modern China, e.g., as analysts, consultants, and mediators.

The Semester contributions totalling 350.48 EUR must be paid each semester. It includes Administrative fee 75.00 EUR, Students body Contribution fee 14.00 EUR, Train semester ticket fee 92.44 EUR, Bus Semester ticket fee 50.90 EUR, Culture semester ticket fee 11.14 EUR and Student union fee 107.00 EUR
Minimum entry requirements include a Bachelor degree in the fields of Chinese history, religion, politics, society, philosophy, linguistics, economy or law of modern China or equivalent.
English language degree and Professional stay of at least one year in a country in which English is accepted as proof of language requirement
German language skills are not required for this programme
Applicants with a native language other than modern Mandarin Chinese must possess sufficient knowledge of modern Mandarin Chinese
Proof of chinese proficiency can be proved by providing proof of level 5 of the Hànyu Shuipíng Kaoshì (HSK) test or on band B level 3 of the Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language (TOCFL)
Documents must be certified and translated in English or German
Proof of Chinese language proficiency must be provided during admission
