The MA program in North American Studies focuses on historical developments, structures, and institutions in North American that are analyzed and interpreted in their respective cultural, economic, literary, political, and social contexts. The program provides in-depth knowledge of North American in the following six disciplines: politics, sociology, literature, economics, culture and history. Students may choose two areas of concentration (out of the six disciplines listed above). In addition, interdisciplinary and regional aspects and issues are addressed in compulsory courses on current topics and research fields in North American.

The Semester contributions totaling 312.89 EUR must be paid each semester. It includes Enrollment fee 50 EUR, Social contribution for Students union fee 54.09 EUR, Student government fee (Studierendenschaft) 10.00 EUR and Semester ticket, tariff area ABC, Social fund fee 198.80 EUR
Minimum requirement includes Bachelor degree or an equivalent degree in one of the following subjects: North American studies, history, cultural studies, literature, political science, sociology, economics, or in an interdisciplinary subject with at least 90 credit points in one of the aforementioned subjects.
In TOEIC, the listening level should be 490 and reading level should be 455
The follow documents can be accepted as proof of English language proficiency: Degree from an educational institution in an English-speaking country
Or Degree from an educational institution in a non-English speaking country where the language of instruction and/or the degree conferred are in English
Or ALTE level (4) or UNICERT III
Or Copy of a passport from a country where the official language is English (Native speaker)
Certified language tests issued by a university (not English course completion tests etc.)
Applicants from China, India or Vietnam have to submit the original certification from an Academic Evaluation Centre (Akademische Prüfstelle (APS))
Applicants have to submit completed special application sheet and all documents if they file a hardship application
