The share of renewable energy sources such as photovoltaics or wind power is growing steadily  allowing consumers to generate energy rather than only consuming it. The increasing decentralisation of plants and the increased volatility of energy production  e.g. due to changing solar radiation  make intelligent networking necessary. Only digitisation will enable both the conversion to an economical and renewable energy system  securing supply in the long term.
For this  interdisciplinarily trained experts are needed who have profound expertise in the field of energy sciences and digital technologies as well as Competencies for organisational implementation under economic  legal and ecological aspects.To this end  students in the international and English-language Master degree programme SES learn the different producer and consumer technologies in modern  decentralised energy grids. They deal in particular with the exchange of information between the individual participants and the associated transmission paths as well as the resulting interaction of the overall system. knowledge from the field of artificial intelligence (AI) and optimisation is also taught  combined with the respective possibilities from the field of information and communication Technology for secure and reliable data exchange. The aim is to sharpen the understanding of the individual generator and consumer technologies and  in particular  to impart knowledge and skills with regard to the optimal operation of an entire energy system.

Students acquire knowledge about the design  operation and optimisation of intelligent  decentralised energy systems through the application of innovative and digital technologies. The growing complexity and interconnection of the energy sectors makes SES graduates ideal specialists and managers not only in the field of energy production and marketing  but also in the real estate industry and building Technology sector  the automotive industry or in energy-intensive industries (building materials  chemicals  glass  non-ferrous metals  paper and steel).

Internship is not mandatory, but is optional during studies. If possible, we recommend doing an internship.

In TOEIC, the listening/reading level should be 785, the speaking level should be 160 and the writing level should be 150 and Native English speakers are exempt from providing proof.

Smart Energy Systems

The Media Architecture study programme offers in the first instance a well-grounded further education qualification for contemporary media- and architecture-related vocations. At the same time it provides a place of experimentation  a kind of laboratory or meeting place for areas of joint research and new fields of work whose forms of expression transcend disciplinary boundaries. The core element of the study programme is the project module which  through intensive ongoing supervision and experimental exploration  provides an opportunity to develop exemplary responses to issues that are currently unresolved. As the student  you can determine the relative degree of theoretical or practical work in your project work according to your individual requirements. Coursework is conducted jointly in interdisciplinary project groups  giving you the chance to learn outside of disciplinary boundaries and to train your ability to work in an interdisciplinary team. The study course is open to new professions arising in the broad spectrum between architecture and new media.

The study programme is bilingual; The language of instruction is English. The degree programme must ensure that an adequate number of
courses are offered in English. With sufficient knowledge of German  students may also attend courses

The BA Graphic Design and Visual Communication program provides students with the skills and specialized knowledge to develop and apply creative and responsible solutions in the field of graphic design. The program is firmly grounded in the vibrant city of Berlin but taught exclusively in English and designed to prepare graduates for an international creative career. In comprehensive hands-on projects students experience the entire workflow from research and ideation to technical implementation. They design projects across a variety of media (apps  animations  posters  books  magazines  brand identities  websites) and learn to communicate their ideas in shifting contexts.

The Master in Data Science will qualify students to analyse big data efficiently and to create systems/solutions for Machine Learning. Therefore they will be all set for future industrial demands. The focus areas of this Data Science Master are Urban Technologies and Intelligent Machines and is explicitly interdisciplinary constructed. After the basic knowledge of Data Science (as Computer Science and Statistics) students will be taught about a wide range of Machine Learning methods.

The Master degree program data science Due to the constant increase in data volumes and data complexity  Data Science has created a new  interdisciplinary field of work that covers a wide range of aspects of data analysis  such as handling large amounts of data  statistical modelling  visualisation  pattern recognition with machine learning methods  but also ethical and legal questions. Data Scientists are urgently needed for many socially significant developments  e.g. in the areas of intelligent vehicles or housing  artificial intelligence or social media.

The extraction of information from data is a genuinely interdisciplinary undertaking: The data collection and the communication of the results of the analyses require a link to the domain from which the data originate. Cyber Security is a scientific programme  in which you learn to understand how the Security Building Blocks work and what are their limits including mathematics behind cryptography. Based on this  you gain knowledge needed to design and develop new algorithms/approaches against specific cyber threats as well as critically evaluate their limits. The programme is not about how to configure a firewall or to run a pen testing tool  it is about academic content with in depth understanding of underlying techniques and principles.

Artificial Intelligence

The Master programme ERM has an applied orientation. It is a consecutive course that follows the Environmental and Resource Management Bachelor degree offered by the BTU Cottbus - Senftenberg and is also suitable as a further qualification for graduates of other relevant Bachelor programmes

The course serves to broaden and deepen professional knowledge and management skills in the focus area of integrated environmental and resource protection. Graduates will be able to assess and design technological  economic and infrastructure processes with the objective of sustainable production  planning and material flow management.

Environmental and Resource Management

The program physics focus is on materials research related to semiconductor devices and functional materials. This comprises identification and characterization of new materials for future silicon-based nanotechnologies  the development and investigation of innovative semiconductor devices  as integrated sensors  on the basis of new physical concepts and/or materials as well as spectroscopic analysis of interfaces and nanostructures. Moreover  concepts for the integration of new devices into existing technology platforms (e.g. the development of integrated THz radiation sources) and questions regarding technical reliability are major issues of research at the institute of physics of the BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg. These experimental and applied research topics are supplemented by strong activities in theoretical physics in the field of condensed matter theory and non-linear physics.

Physics

The international Master degree in Power Engineering is to impart knowledge about sustainable energy supply in a European context. The main focus of the course is the concept of safe  inexpensive and environmentally friendly energy production as one of the most urgent global challenges of the 21st century. The course works closely with regional and national energy suppliers in order to ensure a practical education that enables students to carry out independent and applied research work. The program covers the entire spectrum of energy research in the field of traditional and renewable energies and has an industrial orientation. Some of the lectures and seminars are held by lecturers with practical experience.

Power engineering

The Master program global management (IGC) prepares you for leadership positions in the global economy. On the basis of research-based learning  experienced trainers from the private sector provide you with the necessary practical orientation. The course content prepares you for positions with leadership responsibility in marketing or sales  human resources  investment banking  accounting  logistics and supply chain management  consulting or the administration. The International Master in “Physical Activity and Health” programme provides graduate students with knowledge and practical experience in the field of physical activity and health promotion. Its areas of emphasis are physical activity and exercise for disease prevention and rehabilitation. Students are trained in: conceptualization of intervention strategies  programme implementation within specific settings and/or target groups (e.g. vulnerable groups such as the chronically ill or ethnic minorities)  quality assurance  and scientific evaluation..

Step 1:
As a first step  you should send your application documents as one PDF-File by Email (sport-mapah@fau.de) directly to the Department of Sport Science and Sport. Please do not use the application portal of our university! You will receive a confirmation Email that we have received your application within three working days. Applications will be reviewed by the Department within 6 weeks of receiving the complete application package. Applicants will be informed of the outcome of the evaluation process by Email.

Step 2:
As a second step  applicants who have passed the evaluation by the Department of Sport Science and Sport will be asked to take part in the formal admission process conducted by the central university administration. Applicants will receive assistance guiding them through the formal application process. One important thing is changing: From January 2022  it will no longer be necessary to submit hard copies of your documents (certificates  language certificates  etc.). The entire process of step 1 and step 2 will be done online using electronic documents! The central university administration will conduct a formal check of the applicants' degree certificates. Applicants who pass this second evaluation process will receive an official letter of admission to the MA Programme in Spring/Summer.

For international applicants:
As international (i.e. non-European Union) students will need the formal admission letter in order to apply for a visa to Germany  these applicants are strongly encouraged to file their application with the Department of Sport Science as soon as possible.

If the application to the Department of Sport Science and Sport (Step 1) is submitted later than in February 2022  the full two-step application procedure may not be completed on time to receive a visa for the 2022 fall term.
