Master

The Master program in Simulation and System Design teaches students the theory and methods of the design and simulation of technical systems and of systems for logistics and production. The program focuses on the application of suitable software packages that make the analysis, development and simulation of such systems possible. In addition to the extension, application and the individual specialisation of technical competence in the area of simulation, students also look at selected topics from business administration, so that they are in a position to assess and explain the business aspects of their decisions.

Simulation and System Design

The programme introduces into molecular aspects in cell biology, developmental biology, microbiology, biophysics. Furthermore, topics and concepts in neuroscience, infection and immunity, integrative biology, and biomedicine are presented. Students become familiar with theoretical aspects and principles in cell biology, developmental biology, microbiology, biophysics, bioinformatics and understand recent results in systems biology. With several bioinformatics tools, they learn to use computer based approaches to address and resolve problems in various fields of molecular biology.

The Scientific Computing Master program is a strongly application-oriented program focused on current topics and problems. Students learn how to design holistic solutions for scientific and technical tasks in engineering and natural science applications - from mathematical modeling, analysis of mathematical models, and the development of numeric processes through to the implementation of the processes as software.

Scientific Computing

Master degree program in Astrophysics  helps students to learn how to approach astrophysical problems and apply research methods to solve these problems, transcending the existing state of knowledge if necessary. Engaging with interdisciplinary questions, students are furthermore enabled to identify cross-disciplinary interrelations, applying research methods and findings in an independent, responsible and self-critical way.

Internship is not mandatory, but is optional during studies. If possible, we recommend doing an internship.

The Master degree program Linguistics: Empirical and Theoretical Foundations is an interdisciplinary course of studies. It deepens the subject-specific knowledge, methods, and skills acquired in the field of empirical and theoretical linguistics during previous studies. The degree program combines the formal implementation of findings in modern grammar models for all core areas (phonology, morphology, syntax, and semantics) with experimental investigation methods and field research. The program provides comprehensive, detailed, and specialized knowledge in formal and experimental linguistics. The outstanding expertise of the language system as well as basic statistical and programming skills qualify students for the primary fields of work science, research, and innovation, but also for starting a career outside of academia with a focus on language (such as documentation, specialist journalism, editorial work, advising on development of user-oriented tools, e.g. for communication).

The Master of Public Management has a significant impact upon Its graduates by enhancing their capacity to manage complex projects, tackle problems and apply theoretical knowledge. In order to meet the requirements of a public sector that is facing increasingly complex organizational problems and policy changes, the program equips Its participants with solid theoretical knowledge, a broad range of practical skills and particular training in one of three specialization areas: Public Policy and Administration, Global Public Policy or GeoGovernance. The majority of students hold civil servant, executive and leadership positions in the public or non-profit sector after their studies. The knowledge and skills acquired during the MPM can be applied to a high degree in the professional life of the alumni and the Master program promotes individual careers and development.

Geodesy and Geoinformatics covers a wide range of tasks and activities. The discipline deals with current social issues ranging from climate change to the impact of the growing world population on land. In the Geomatics specialisation of the Master degree programme in Geodesy and Geoinformatics, you build on your knowledge from the Bachelor’s programme. To this end, in-depth basis are taught in Advanced subjects.

The Master Programme in Linguistics gives a clear overview of how the general theories and directions in linguistics research are shaping up in individual languages. Students will learn which universal structures underlie human speech and how linguistic knowledge is applied to the investigation of individual languages. Language universals and comparative language observations form the starting point in the study programme. Area of specialisation include General Linguistics, English Linguistics, German / Germanic Linguistics, Romance Languages and Linguistics, Slavic Languages and Linguistics. In general, students will acquire the necessary knowledge and skills for an academic career or for professionally addressing theoretical and practical issues of linguistics and starting a career that centres around language.

Course may be held in other languages than German. Consequently, course work and academic performance assessments can be completed in German language, too

The aim of the Bachelor program in Electrical engineering and information technology is to prepare students for their professional careers as engineers in the areas that were previously occupied by graduates of the diploma courses in electrical engineering and information technology. The level of training provided in this program allows students entry into types of activity that are more likely to be assigned to the non-scientific field, in addition to the classic career start as an electrical engineer. This includes activities in service, testing, production, sales, project planning. The additional non-technical subjects are intended to promote the employability of the graduates, who will work in a team and whose products must also be economically competitive in international competition.
